To Be Heard

If you don’t learn to write your own life story, someone else will write it for you.

To Be Heard is the story of three teens from the South Bronx whose struggles to transform their lives begin when they join a writing workshop and start to write spoken word poetry. As writing and performing become vehicles for their expressions of love, friendship, frustration, and hope, the documentary follows these three teenagers as they evolve into accomplished self-aware artists who use their creativity to alter their circumstances.

To capture the essence and power of the written word, Touch created marketing pieces for the film that use a bold, vibrant color palette and designed graphics of the actors’ silhouettes containing their actual poetry. This both personalizes and heightens the impact of their writing and provides an authentic reflection of the power of their story.

The New York Times calls To Be Heard “one of the best documentaries of the year.” The film has won a host of awards, including the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at DOC NYC, the Audience Award at the Seattle International Film Festival and the Nantucket Film Festival, and many more. Today, the film’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes continues to grow.
