Bloodworks Northwest

“Save More Lives” Campaign

CONTEXT

Vaccines are saving lives and providing a welcome source of hope. According to the Department of Health, as of May 1 over five million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in Washington state. But with so much focus on pandemic relief and herd immunity, other essential services are taking a hit. Giving blood has been declining at alarming rates since the virus took hold in early 2020. In response, Bloodworks Northwest has launched a bold new campaign to get in front of tens of thousands of potential donors at Lumen Field, one of the main vaccine locations in King County. Seeking to connect with and inspire a captive audience already in the mindset of doing good, they enlisted a diverse group of partners to help. When called upon, we at Touch were eager to contribute the time and resources necessary to achieve success.

OUR APPROACH

Home to both the Seahawks and Sounders, Lumen Field is currently serving as one of four main vaccination sites in the Seattle area. With so many people funneling in and out of the location every day, Bloodworks Northwest saw an opportunity to grow awareness and build their donor base. And as the sole provider of blood for over 95% of hospitals in the region, the effort comes not a moment too soon.

Our team began by collaborating with local sports influencers like Mariner’s Hall of Famer Dan Wilson, the Seattle Storm’s Crystal Langhorne, and sports anchors Aaron Levine and Jen Mueller to produce a series of thoughtful video interviews to be played on screen as people wait for their vaccine shots. Using existing branding, we built out a robust series of 2D assets including volunteer T-shirts, a selfie wall design, chair covers, and posters. Finally, a simple yet informative landing page was constructed, encouraging potential donors to sign up for a chance to enter a sweepstakes, receive more information and sign up for appointments to donate blood.

To date, just over 40% of the population in Washington state are at least partially vaccinated, but we aren’t out of the woods yet. If you live or work in King County and would like to get vaccinated, consider booking an appointment here.

Statistics show that 1,000 blood donors are needed every day to maintain a stable blood supply, but only 10% of eligible donors give blood regularly. Learn more about how you can help, here.
